PA, PLO officials and foreign diplomats hold Ramadan breakfast dinner with prisoners’ families
Official PA TV News, on an official meal breaking the Ramadan fast held by the PLO for ambassadors and consuls as well as prisoners’ families in Ramallah
Official PA TV newsreader: “[PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas’] Advisor on Foreign Affairs Nabil Shaath emphasized that the leadership considers the prisoners’ cause as having top priority and asked the international community to pressure Israel to release them. This was said during the [Ramadan] fast breaking meal that the [PLO] Department for Negotiation Affairs organized in cooperation with the [PLO] Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs, and in the presence of ambassadors and consuls from throughout the world and prisoners’ families in Ramallah.”
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ Advisor on Foreign Affairs Nabil Shaath: “[This event brings] diplomats and ambassadors from the world who are in Palestine and consuls from the world who are in Jerusalem together with prisoners’ families and with representatives of the Palestinian leadership. Therefore, there is a possibility that they will truly feel the pain from which the Palestinian prisoners and the Palestinian prisoners’ families are suffering when the prisoners’ cause is clearly explained to them. That is what I tried to do. We provided an opportunity for representatives of the prisoners’ families to speak here. I think that their words had a great impact on the ambassadors here.”
Director of PLO Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs Issa Karake: “[Especially] in the month of Ramadan, in this honorable month, our Palestinian people and our families remember their absent sons who are in the occupation’s prisons, who are not participating with their families in the fast breaking meal. There is always prayer for the end of the suffering of the thousands who are imprisoned in the prisons. We will organize meetings with consuls and ambassadors, as happened today, with members of the diplomatic staff in order to convey the suffering of those who are imprisoned in the prisons.”
