Abbas condemns terror attacks in Cairo

“[PA] President [Mahmoud] Abbas condemned the terror attack that took place at St. George Church north of Cairo, the capital of Egypt, which claimed dozens of innocent killed and wounded people (see note below –Ed.). He emphasized that the Palestinian people and its leadership stand completely by the side of the Egyptian people, its leadership, and its magnificent army against ‘indiscriminate terror, which is targeting Egypt and its leading role.’ The president expressed his warm condolences to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, his people, and his government over the victims of the cowardly terror incident. He emphasized that he is very confident of Egypt’s ability to overcome all of the difficulties…
The president also expressed his warm condolences to [Coptic] Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church Tawadros.”

On Palm Sunday, April 9, 2017, two bombings took place north of Cairo at two separate Coptic Christian churches - St. George Church in Tanta, and Saint Mark’s Cathedral in Alexandria. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attacks, in which dozens were murdered and over 100 were wounded.
