PA daily op-ed: “Historic Palestine, and Jerusalem at its heart, its western and eastern parts, has been Palestinian land for 4,000 years”
Headline: "The embarrassing capitulation of the UN"
Op-ed by Omar Hilmi Al-Ghoul, columnist for the official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida
"A few days ago the UN refused to display an Israeli exhibit titled Zionism and Jerusalem, which was meant to be held on Monday, April 4 [2016], because the exhibit is not consistent with the decisions the of international bodies and includes pictures and symbols that have no connection to Zionism and the Israeli ethnic cleansing state, including pictures and items of the original owners of the land, in other words the Arab Palestinians. Likewise, posters are displayed in the exhibit with slogans that contradict the option of a political arrangement and the UN resolutions from the beginning of the conflict 70 years ago and until today, such as: 'Jerusalem, where Israel originated 3,000 years ago!' However, the UN leadership capitulated to the logic of Israel's representatives in the UN after Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon sent a letter of sharp protest to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, in which he protested the ban decision…
Unfortunately, the UN ignored its regulations and decisions and agreed to the option of the Israeli ambassador, right-wing extremist [Danny] Danon, who opposes the two-state option within the borders of June 4, 1967. This is an embarrassment for the UN secretary-general and the entire international body, and reflects a shirking of the decisions of international entities by those appointed by this body, who have rejected and reject the Israeli view, as it has no connection to reality, the two-state option, or historical logic. This is because historic Palestine, and Jerusalem at its heart, its western and eastern parts, has been Palestinian land for 4,000 years."
