Fatah official: Marwan Barghouti is “a source of pride for the Palestinian people”

“Fatah Central Committee member Mahmoud Al-Aloul said that [Parliament Member Marwan Barghouti is] a source of pride for the Palestinian people, being one of the founders of the Palestinian national path of struggle. He emphasized that they will continue on this path of national struggle, speaking about fighter leader Marwan Barghouti’s entering his 15th year in the occupation’s prison. Likewise, he [Al-Aloul] said that his [Barghouti’s] arrest is a difficult event for the Palestinian people.
Al-Aloud said today, Thursday [April 14, 2016] in an interview with the Mawtini radio station: ‘The fighter Barghouti is a source of pride for the Palestinian people and one of the founders of the Palestinian path of struggle.’ He added that the principles of struggle became rooted in the consciousness of Palestinians, and said: ‘The occupation is deluding itself, thinking that it can extinguish the flame of struggle and popular resistance by arresting the leaders and fighters.’ Likewise, he stressed that Palestine’s young draw inspiration from the struggle experience and the ideas of their leaders, the Martyrs (Shahids) and prisoners in their confrontation with the Israeli occupation.”

Marwan Barghouti - serving 5 life sentences for orchestrating three shooting attacks that killed 5 people: one in Jerusalem (June 12, 2001, 1 killed), another in Givat Zeev near Jerusalem (Jan. 15, 2002, 1 killed), and one in Tel Aviv (March 5, 2002, 3 killed). When arrested in 2002, he headed the Tanzim (Fatah terror faction). After he was convicted and imprisoned, he was re-elected member of the Palestinian Authority parliament.
