Islamic-Christian Council: Israel threatens the Al-Aqsa Mosque with “Judaization,” is excavating under the Mosque’s foundations to “collapse and destroy it”
Headline: “The [PA] Islamic-Christian [Council] blessed the anniversary of [Prophet Muhammad’s] Night Journey and Ascent to Heaven, and warned against the division of the Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza and its Judaization”
“The Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places… warned in its announcement of the Judaization and destruction the Jerusalem Noble Sanctuary is facing, as the invasions of the Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza to hold Talmudic (i.e., Jewish) prayers and dances have now become a daily matter, along with the continued excavation of tunnels under the foundations of the Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza, which threaten to [cause it to] collapse and destroy it.”
"Division according to areas and times" refers to a proposed law (May 2013) being reviewed in Israeli Parliament that would allow for both Jews and Muslims to pray on the Temple Mount. The law seeks to designate separate prayer times and areas of the site for Muslims and Jews. Israeli PM Netanyahu has stated on many occasions that the Israeli government has no intention of changing the status quo on the Temple Mount.
The PA considers any presence of Jews on the Temple Mount – all of which they consider to be an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque - an "invasion." When Jews enter the Temple Mount, they only enter some sections of the open areas, and do not enter the mosque.
