PLO Department for Jerusalem Affairs: Israel is taking “daily steps… against the [Al-Aqsa] mosque, which will lead to the ignition of a religious war… by its allowing herds of extreme settlers to defile its pure plaza”
Headline: “The [PLO] Department for Jerusalem Affairs condemned the approval of a plan to build a settlement building in Silwan”
“The PLO Department for Jerusalem Affairs… said that what is taking place in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza constitutes a great danger in light of the daily steps being taken against the mosque, which will lead to the ignition of a religious war, being directed by the Israeli occupation government against the mosque, by its allowing herds of extreme settlers to defile its pure plaza, closing it to worshippers, and forbidding women to enter it, especially during the blessed month of Ramadan. The department saluted the resolve of our Jerusalem residents, worshippers, Steps of Knowledge students (i.e., a study group at the Al-Aqsa Mosque), and those carrying out Ribat (i.e., religious conflict/war over land claimed to be Islamic), who protect the Al-Aqsa Mosque with their bare chests, and hold off the ongoing invasion of the gangs of settlers.”
The PA and its leaders consider all of the Temple Mount an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Therefore they view any presence of Jews on the mount as an "invasion." It should be noted that Jews who visit the Temple Mount only enter some sections of the open areas, and do not enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque or the Dome of the Rock.
