PA Minister of Religious Affairs repeats libel that Israel has “malicious plan” to destroy Al-Aqsa Mosque, build third temple
Official PA TV News, on Jewish groups on the Temple Mount
Official PA TV reporter: “Jewish organizations are waiting for an official political decision regarding the building of the alleged Temple within a time frame that does not exceed three years.”
PA Minister of Religious Affairs Yusuf Ida’is: “This is a plan organized by the Israeli occupation authorities, even if the tool they are using is the herds of settlers that the Israeli occupation authorities bring in to the Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza every day, in order to create facts on the ground and divide it according to areas, and afterwards to carry out the malicious plan and destroy the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
Official PA TV based its claim about an Israeli plan to build the Temple in less than three years on an alleged Israeli Channel 2 news report, apparently one from Aug. 14, 2016, about the Women for the Temple organization. In the Israeli report no official Israeli source was interviewed and there was no target date given for the building of the Temple.
"Division according to areas and times" refers to a proposed law (May 2013) being reviewed in Israeli Parliament that would allow for both Jews and Muslims to pray on the Temple Mount, what the Palestinians call the Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza. The law seeks to designate separate prayer times and areas of the site for Muslims and Jews.
However, Israeli PM Netanyahu has stated on many occasions that the Israeli government has no intention of changing the status quo on the Temple Mount, which means Jews are allowed to enter the Temple Mount, but cannot pray there or engage in any type of worship.
