PLO official: Israel is executing "ancient Zionist plots" to build Temple, Al-Aqsa in danger of "imminent collapse"
Headline: “The Al-Aqsa Mosque fire – the fire is still burning!”
Op-ed by PLO Executive Committee member and Head of the Department for Jerusalem Affairs Ahmed Qurei “Abu Alaa”
“A week ago was the 47th anniversary of the crime of the arson of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Saladin [Al-Ayyubi’s] pulpit, in what appeared to be a situation of troubling silence, broken only by a small number of notices repeated regularly throughout recent years…
It was sad to see that all the condemnations of the act, which indeed deserves to be condemned, used only the language of mourning and lamentation, and added nothing to the repeated and recurring words of the regular articles, which view the event only as a fire that broke out and ended on the morning of Aug. 21, 1969, and not as a political fire that still burns to this day, and even grows anew each morning, not only at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and its environs, but rather in the entire city of Jerusalem.
With a more comprehensive analytical look than seeing the fire only as a criminal act planned by an extremist Jewish settler with Australian citizenship (sic., fire set by Christian Australian Michael Rohan) and its treatment as a painful historical event, it can be said that the Jewish logic, which is full of historical grudges and religious myths, through this arson opened a wider door for the perpetration of ancient Zionist plots. Plots whose goal is to determine the future of Jerusalem by creating finalized facts and a new reality, that can defend themselves by themselves in any future negotiation regarding the fate of Jerusalem and the Palestinian areas…
The extremist Zionist groups, those who held the hand of the same Jewish settler (sic) named Michael Rohan when he perpetrated this intentional fire, are those who today hold the reins of government in Israel, and they are those who carry out the operation of Judaizing Jerusalem for all to see, and call with unprecedented determination to divide the Al-Aqsa Mosque without encountering any opposition or anyone who will deter them. This is so much so that they are rapidly approaching their overt goal of destroying the first direction of prayer of the Muslims (i.e., the Al-Aqsa Mosque) in order to establish the mythical Temple, and afterwards turn Jerusalem into an entirely Jewish city before everyone.
In fact, these evil Israeli goals are no longer only intentions nested in the heart of small groups of ultra-extremists and settlers, but rather have become an official work plan being implemented in the field, and in particular under the Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza (i.e., the Temple Mount), which currently is subject to imminent collapse due to a series of underground tunnels and passageways.”
Michael Rohan - deranged Australian Christian who set fire to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in 1969. For years, the Palestinian Authority has falsely accused Israel of setting the fire.
"Division according to areas and times" refers to a proposed law (May 2013) being reviewed in Israeli Parliament that would allow for both Jews and Muslims to pray on the Temple Mount, what the Palestinians call the Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza. The law seeks to designate separate prayer times and areas of the site for Muslims and Jews. However, Israeli PM Netanyahu has stated on many occasions that the Israeli government has no intention of changing the status quo on the Temple Mount, which means Jews are allowed to enter the Temple Mount, but cannot pray there or engage in any type of worship.
