PA Mufti: Israeli excavations try to substantiate "false claims" of "alleged Temple" while attempting to destroy Al-Aqsa mosque
“[PA] Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and preacher at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Muhammad Hussein… called on everyone who is able to come to the Al-Aqsa Mosque to invest the maximum effort to visit it and strengthen the presence there in order to defend it, and emphasized the adherence of our people to their mosque, regardless of the price and sacrifices this will demand, until Allah inherits the earth and everything on it.
On another matter, Sheikh Hussein clarified that the statements of Israeli archaeologists, according to which they have found parts of floors from the Temple period in excavations that took place under the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, are false claims through which they are trying to prove that the Al-Aqsa Mosque was established on the ruins of their alleged Temple. Likewise, he referred to the danger posed by excavations of this type, which pave the way to shaking the foundations of the blessed mosque in an attempt to destroy it and to God forbid establish the alleged Temple in its place.”
Note : The Israeli daily Haaretz has stated that the excavations do not reach beneath the mosque:
"The diggers are painstaking to respect the dignity of the Temple Mount. Despite complaints from the Islamic Movement and Palestinian groups, not a single dig penetrates beneath the mount." [Haaretz, May 24, 2016]
