PA Supreme Fatwa Council condemns "invasions" of Al-Aqsa Mosque, calls on Palestinians to protect the mosque at all costs "until Allah inherits the land and everything in it"
Headline: “The Islamic-Christian Council warns: Extremist calls for group invasions [of Jews] of the Al-Aqsa Mosque”
“The [PA’s] Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places said yesterday [Sept. 29, 2016] that the call of the coalition of Alleged Temple organizations to hold group invasions of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque during the season of Jewish holidays in the month of October constitutes an emphasis of the provocative policy that the occupation authorities, their settlers, and their extremist organizations are adopting. Likewise, the council noted that this desecration of the holy sites is not the first violation, but rather one of the systematic Judaization steps [being taken against] the [Al-Aqsa] Mosque.”
The PA and its leaders consider all of the Temple Mount an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Therefore they view any presence of Jews on the mount as an “invasion.” It should be noted that Jews who visit the Temple Mount only enter some sections of the open areas, and do not enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque or the Dome of the Rock.
"Alleged Temple organizations" refer to religious Jewish movements including the Temple Mount Heritage Foundation, The Initiative for Jewish Freedom on the Temple Mount and Students for the Temple Mount, which spread awareness of the importance of the Temple Mount in Judaism and encourage people to visit the site. Preceding the Purim holiday, religious websites such as the Temple Mount News website [Feb. 23, 2015] announced a "special visit" to the Temple Mount, which was expected to draw "masses of Jews."
