Fatah official: Israel ordered the assassination of Arafat and may try to harm Abbas as well

Headline: “Dr. Amal Hamad: Whoever holds on to his Fatahness today, it is as if he is holding on to the embers”
“[Fatah’s Lebanese] Al-Quds magazine met with Fatah Movement Central Committee member Dr. Amal Hamad for an open interview about marking the anniversary of Martyr (Shahid) [Yasser] Arafat[’s death], and the situation in the Gaza Strip in everything regarding the Seventh [Fatah] Conference.” …
Q: “What point has been reached in the investigation into the death as a Martyr of [former PA] President Arafat?”
Fatah Movement Central Committee member Dr. Amal Hamad: “I have no information other than what was said by [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas during the rally to mark the anniversary, and that is that there are a number of signs and proof that they have information. The issue is a central and important issue that will continue until it is proven exactly who the hand [behind Arafat’s death] and the instrument of implementation were. We understand that the one who gave the orders was the Israeli occupation, but we just need to expose the instrument of implementation, and that is the mission of the investigative committee.”
Q: “President Mahmoud Abbas said in his speech on the anniversary of the death as a Martyr of President Arafat: ‘I will not end my life with a renouncement or a sale’ – are these signs that the president’s life is in danger?”
Amal Hamad: “…President Abbas said ‘No’ to the Americans, the Arabs, and the Israelis and maintained the basic principles. Therefore, it would not be strange if those who tried to kill Martyr Yasser Arafat would try to harm President Abbas, who maintained the same basic principles and will continue on the same path of his friend, Yasser Arafat.”
