Senior PLO official: If US embassy is moved to Jerusalem, the "PLO needs to retract the recognition of Israel"
Official PA TV program State of Politics, hosting Secretary-General of the PLO Executive Committee Saeb Erekat
Secretary-General of the PLO Executive Committee Saeb Erekat: “I tell you frankly – this is my personal opinion – in the next meeting of the Palestinian National Council (i.e., the legislative body of the PLO), if the administration of [US] President-elect [Donald] Trump moves the embassy to Jerusalem, or the ambassador who was appointed works in Jerusalem, the PLO needs to retract the recognition of Israel. Our recognition was not given for free, as [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas] said in his speech before the Seventh [Fatah] Committee…
I think that the Arab peoples also will not agree to having American embassies in any of the capitals [of the Arab states] if they [the Americans] carry out this step.”
Official PA host: “You are talking about the Arab peoples, and not the Arab governments?”
Saeb Erekat: “I am also talking about the governments.”
