Fatah in Lebanon about terror: “popular resistance” that “defends the trees, people, and rocks”

Headline: “[PA Committee Chairman] Walid Assaf: The settlement is a dangerous cancer that threatens the future of the Palestinian state”

“The popular resistance (term here refers to events that include violence against Israeli civilians such as rock-‎throwing, stabbings, and even shootings -Ed.)‎ constitutes a Palestinian strategic means of defense, and one of the means for ending the occupation and dealing with the Israeli settlement project, and particularly in the areas of friction between the Palestinians and Israelis, as it acts to defend the trees, people, and rocks from the settlement. [Chairman of the PA Committee to Resist Settlements and the Wall Walid] Assaf noted that many villages have turned the peaceful resistance (term Palestinians use to refer to acts that include violence –Ed.) into a means to defend themselves, and they have constituted a model of patience and perseverance in defending the land, of which we are proud. He added: ‘The occupation tried to depict the last popular uprising (‎‎Palestinian euphemism for several months of Palestinian terror attacks against Israelis 2015 - 2016 -Ed.) as a knife intifada, and to focus on its violent side in order to suppress it through any means it wants, and to present Israel as a victim before the world. However, those who watch the situation know that the peaceful popular resistance is the best means for us at this stage.’”

The article appears in the January 2017 edition of the magazine of Fatah’s Information and Culture Commission in Lebanon, Al-Quds, and was posted on the commission’s website Falestinona on Jan. 19, 2017.

The terms "all means," "peaceful resistance ,” and “popular resistance" are ‎often used by PA leaders to refer to events that include violence and deadly terror ‎against Israeli civilians such as rock-throwing, stabbings and even shootings. See ‎Mahmoud Abbas' reference to murderous terror as "peaceful" during the 2015-2016 ‎terror wave (“The Knife Intifada”), which included numerous stabbings, shootings and car ramming attacks in which 40 people were killed (36 Israelis, 1 Palestinian, 2 Americans and 1 Eritrean) and hundreds wounded: http://palwatch.org/main.aspx?fi=157&doc_id=16437
