PLO official Ashrawi: Britain needs to “correct the historical injustice of the Balfour Declaration”
Headline: "Ashrawi met with British Consul General Alastair McPhail"
"PLO Executive Committee member Hanan Ashrawi met yesterday [Jan. 23, 2017] with British Consul General [to Jerusalem] Alastair McPhail at her office in Ramallah…
In light of the approaching date of the meeting between British Prime Minister Mrs. Theresa May and American President Donald Trump, Ashrawi called on the government of Britain to fill a positive and constructive role in everything connected to ending the Israeli occupation, and to correct the historical injustice caused to the Palestinian people as a result of the ominous Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration)."
The Balfour Declaration of Nov. 2, 1917 was a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Baron Rothschild stating that “His Majesty's government views with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people” and is seen as the basis for later international commitments to establish the State of Israel.
