Headline: “Marwan: A film that illustrates the stories of the fighters, the expelled, and the prisoners”
“‘Marwan’ is a 70-minute documentary film that was screened yesterday, Tuesday [Feb. 6, 2017], in its first version at the Red Cross Hall in El-Bireh. It is a documentary film that illustrates the life of the Palestinian fighter [Marwan Barghouti] (i.e., terrorist who orchestrated three shooting attacks in which 5 were murdered), who was sentenced to 5 life sentences in the occupation’s prisons…
The film begins with an interview with [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas, in which he emphasizes that he and Barghouti have shared the same ideas for the past 40 years, and it documents the life of prisoner Marwan Barghouti from 1978, and his participation in the Stone Intifada (i.e., Palestinian wave of violence and terror against Israel, 1987-1993) and afterwards in the Al-Aqsa Intifada (i.e., PA terror campaign 2000-2005), during which he was arrested.
It is a documentary film that is based on interviews, and prime among them is the interview with His Honor the President [Abbas], in addition to interviews with fighter Marwan Barghouti’s wife, Fadwa Barghouti, members of the Fatah Movement Central Committee, his comrades in prison and in the national movement, and representatives of the different factions.
The documentary film relates to Marwan’s role in establishing Fatah’s [youth movement] Shabiba and how he contributed to building this institution and setting it up in the Gaza Strip as well, his election three times as president of the student council at Birzeit University, and the occupation forces’ pursuit after him in the First Intifada, his arrest, and his expulsion. Afterwards, the film speaks about Marwan’s role in the period of the Oslo Accords, and also about his role in the Second Intifada up to his arrest.”
The documentary film, published on the YouTube channel of Alghad TV on Feb. 8, 2017, shows part of the interview with PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “There is a personal connection between myself and Marwan Barghouti, and this connection is based on how we share the same ideas.”
