Headline: "At the Tehran conference for support of our people: Al-Za'anoun calls to use all means of pressure in order to defend Jerusalem"
“Chairman of the Palestinian National Council (i.e., the legislative body of the PLO) [Salim Al-Za'anoun] demanded the use of all means of pressure in order to defend Jerusalem, the eternal capital of our state, and to support the residents of Jerusalem, who are dealing by themselves with the policy and steps of the Israeli occupation state and global Zionism – especially in the shadow of the American threats to transfer the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Al-Za'anoun emphasized in the Palestine speech at the Sixth Support for the Resolve of the Palestinian People Conference (sic., the Support for the Palestinian Intifada Conference) that is convening today (Tuesday) [Feb. 21, 2017] in Tehran, the capital of Iran, that our people – in all of its cities, villages, and refugee camps – defends not only the sites that are holy to the Muslims and Christians, but also the honor of this nation.
He emphasized the centrality of the Palestinian cause for the Arabs, Muslims, and free people of the world until the Palestinian people succeeds in liberating its land and establishing its independent state, whose capital is Jerusalem. This is because there will be no security or peace in the region, or even in the entire world, without Jerusalem as the capital of the Palestinian state…
Al-Za'anoun added in his speech that Jerusalem is in immediate danger because the Zionist policy of Judaization is wreaking havoc in the occupied city and damaging its Arab and Islamic identity, and therefore it needs those who will support its resolve, and not more useless demands, calls, and notices.
Al-Za'anoun said that [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu and [US President Donald] Trump agreed to bury the two-state solution and allow Israel to do as it wishes with our people…
He also called to press Britain to cancel the ceremony it is planning to hold for the 100th anniversary of the ominous Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration) with the official participation of Israel. He said that instead of this, [Britain] must apologize to the Palestinian people for its sin, correct this mistake and the historical injustice caused as a result of this colonialist promise, recognize the State of Palestine and the right of the refugees to return to the lands from which they were expelled by brute military force, and compensate the Palestinian people…
Al-Za'anoun emphasized the right of the Palestinian people to resist the occupation with all forms of resistance (i.e., including violence), as it is a sacred and existential right for us so that we will remain on our land and defend it, for a stone is resistance, a word is resistance, waving the Palestinian flag before the occupier each day is resistance, and [all] options are open to our people…
In his speech, Al-Za'anouon thanked the Iranian republic, its leader [Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah] Ali Khamenei, President of the Islamic Republic [of Iran] Hassan Rouhani, and Chairman of the Iranian Parliament Ali Larijani for their initiative to support the resolve of the Palestinian people."
The Balfour Declaration of Nov. 2, 1917 was a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Baron Rothschild stating that “His Majesty's government views with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people” and is seen as the basis for later international commitments to establish the State of Israel.
