PA security forces suppress political demonstration in Ramallah

Headline: “PNN report: [PA] Security Forces dispersed a protest vigil of Hizb ut-Tahrir. Al-Damiri says that they are creating internal conflicts, and the party answers”
“The Palestinian [PA] Security Forces dispersed a demonstration of the Palestinian Hizb ut-Tahrir (i.e., the Party of Liberation, an international Salafist political organization) at the Ibn Rushd Square in Hebron this afternoon, Saturday [Feb. 25, 2017]. This was after the party’s supporters gathered for a procession and protest vigil over the continued detention of a number of its members by the Palestinian Security Forces. The Security Forces members dispersed the protest vigil at the Ibn Rushd Square and dispersed the participants with gas grenades, according to eyewitnesses at the site. Local Palestinian sources in Hebron said that the Palestinian Security Forces have declared a state of alert in the Hebron district due to Hizb ut-Tahrir’s call to hold a protest vigil against the continued detention of a number of its members…
[PA] Security Forces Spokesman Adnan Al-Damiri said in an interview with the PNN [independent Palestinian news] network: ‘Hizb ut-Tahrir today called to hold an illegal vigil that did not receive a permit from an official body such as the district or the Hebron Municipality’…
Engineer Baher Saleh, a member of Hizb ut-Tahrir’s information bureau, responded in an interview with PNN to Al-Damiri’s statement regarding the illegality [of the protest vigil], and said that this is incorrect because Hizb ut-Tahrir on Wednesday [Feb. 22, 2017] submitted a notice to the Hebron police administration about holding the vigil, and clarified that the party took all the [necessary] legal steps for this vigil.”
