PLO official: We are trying to free all the prisoners, including Barghouti
Headline: "During a press conference with Karake and Fares – Erekat: We are willing to formulate a national strategy regarding the prisoners together with the PLO factions"
"Secretary of the PLO Executive Committee [PLO Chief Negotiator, and Fatah Central Committee member] Saeb Erekat yesterday [March 5, 2017,] emphasized the willingness [of the PLO Executive Committee] to convene a meeting of all of the PLO factions in order to formulate a national strategy regarding the prisoners, in conjunction with the continued efforts to internationalize this matter and transfer it to the International Criminal Court.
Erekat said these things yesterday during a press conference hosted by the [PLO] department for negotiations in its offices in El-Bireh, with the participation of Director of the [PLO] Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs Issa Karake and Chairman of the Prisoners' Club Qadura Fares…
Erekat said: 'We are making efforts to find quick solutions to the problem of the prisoners and to free all of them, and primarily the top [prisoners], such as Ahmad Sa'adat (i.e., head of PFLP terrorist organization), Marwan Barghouti (i.e., terrorist who orchestrated three shooting attacks in which 5 were murdered), Fuad Al-Shubaki (i.e., attempted to smuggle 50 tons of weapons to the PA), and Nael Barghouti (i.e., terrorist, murdered 1) who was rearrested and had his previous sentences reinstated in a historical precedent.’
…
Erekat concluded by saying: 'There is no greater terror than the occupation. Whoever wishes to vanquish terror knows that ideas cannot be killed with bullets, and that he must start by drying up the sources of the occupation.'"

Both were sentenced to life but were released in the Shalit prisoner exchange deal in 2011.
