PA TV claims all of the Temple Mount “belongs to Muslims,” denies Western Wall was “place of worship” for Jews before Balfour Declaration in 1917

Official PA TV filler The TV Lexicon, on the status quo of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

“The status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque”

Official PA TV narrator: "The term ‘the status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque’ (i.e., the Temple Mount) means the historical status, in other words the natural status as was accepted and continued throughout the previous historical periods. This status is unchangeable. The accepted status is that this is a mosque that belongs only to the Muslims, including all that is in it such as the buildings, the plazas within it, the areas around it, and all that is connected to it outside of it. This is accepted, and it remained understood, known, and clear throughout history without any mistake, ambiguity, or doubt. There is no documentation of a different status (sic., numerous historical artifacts testify that two Jewish temples stood on the site). The natural status quo continued until the modern period. It was preserved during the Ottoman period, and afterwards in the period of British occupation, and the period of Jordanian rule until 1967, when Israel occupied Jerusalem and hurried to harm the status quo of the Al-Aqsa Mosque… There is no documentation that the Jews made the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall) a place of worship at any time, except after the Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration) of 1917. It is stated in the Jewish encyclopedia that was published in 1917 that the Western Wall became part of the Jewish heritage in 1520 as a result of the Jewish immigration from Spain, and after the Ottoman rule (sic., the walls of the Temple Mount have remained significant to Jews since the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE)."

The Balfour Declaration of Nov. 2, 1917 was a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Baron Rothschild stating that “His Majesty's government views with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.” In 1922, the League of Nations adopted this and made the British Mandate “responsible for putting into effect the declaration,” which led to the UN vote in 1947 and the establishment of the State of Israel.

Al-Buraq Wall - Islam's Prophet Muhammad is said to have rode during his Night Journey from Mecca to "Al-Aqsa Mosque", i.e., "the farthest mosque" (Quran, Sura 17), and there tied his miraculous flying steed named Al-Buraq to a "stone" or a "rock." (Jami` at-Tirmidhi, Book 47, Hadith 3424). In the 1920's, Arab Mufti Haj Amin Al-Husseini decided to identify the Western Wall of the Temple in Jerusalem as that "rock" or "stone," and since then Muslims refer to the Western Wall as the "Al-Buraq Wall."
