PA Education Minister: Our education must “encourage liberation”; Israeli Arab members of Israeli parliament: Incitement against Israel is a “Palestinian right” and “human obligation”
Headline: “Saidam: We want education that will encourage liberation”
“The [PA] Ministry of Education and Higher Education yesterday [March 22, 2017] opened a first of its kind workshop regarding the ‘incitement’ in the Palestinian curricula and the Israeli attack against the education.
[PA] Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Sabri Saidam, [PA] Minister of Culture Dr. Ehab Bessaiso, Director of the Committee to Resist Settlements and the Wall Walid Assaf, [PA] Deputy Minister of Education Basri Saleh, [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas'] advisor on [Foreign Affairs and] International Relations Dr. Nabil Shaath, and Israeli Arab Parliament members Dr. Ahmad Tibi, Muhammad Barakeh, Hanin Zoabi, Masud Ganaim, and Talab El-Sana participated in the workshop events…
Saidam emphasized that this unconventional workshop is being held due to the attack that the occupation is waging against our curriculum, and emphasized that the workshop will lead to many questions.
Saidam answered the big question: Which educational system do we want? He said: ‘We want education that will encourage liberation.’ In conjunction, he presented the prominent aspects of the curricula, and particularly those of the new national curriculum for grades 1 – 4…
Saidam mentioned the fact that the occupation forbids teaching the [PA] national curriculum in the schools of Jerusalem (i.e., Israeli Arab schools). He noted that the curriculum includes great expertise whose goal is to mold the Palestinian personality and accompany the education with knowledge and deep-rooted principles…
Tibi emphasized that it is the right of the Palestinians who are under occupation to incite against it, and spoke about the Israeli incitement against the Palestinian people and its educational system…
Zoabi emphasized that the incitement against the occupation and its crimes are not a right but rather a human obligation, and called to use justice in order to resist any type of Israeli incitement.
Masud Ganaim mentioned Israel’s ongoing attempts to demonize the victim, and noted the forgery and distortion attempts that they have carried out against the curricula in the Interior (i.e., Palestinian term for Israel).
El-Sana spoke about the attempts to disrupt the consciousness of the Palestinians, and said that the campaign against the occupation is essentially the Palestinians’ defense of their land, and it is anchored in international law. He explained that the occupation is using excuses that allow it to violate all of the international norms and laws vis-à-vis the Palestinians.”
