Fatah official calls on Britain to apologize for the Balfour declaration, a “historical mistake”

Headline: “Fattouh calls on Britain to recognize the State of Palestine”
“Fatah Movement Central Committee member and Commissioner of International Relations Rawhi Fattouh called on Britain to recognize the State of Palestine within the 1967 borders whose capital is East Jerusalem, to implement the recommendation of the [British] parliament on the matter, and to submit an apology for issuing the Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration). This was said during Fattouh’s meeting yesterday [March 30, 2017] with a delegation from the British Labour Party, led by General Secretary of the Party Iain McNicol. Fattouh emphasized the significance of the British recognition of the State of Palestine, particularly in light of the recommendation that was published by the parliament in 2014 on the matter, and also the importance of the apology for the historical mistake that the government of Britain made in issuing the Balfour Promise.”

The Balfour Declaration of Nov. 2, 1917 was a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Baron Rothschild stating that “His Majesty's government views with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people” and is seen as the basis for later international commitments to establish the State of Israel.
