Fatah secretariat defends Jibril Rajoub, threatens to "sue" those who "fabricate claims" against him
Headline: “The Fatah Central Committee secretariat rejects the false claims against Rajoub”
“The Fatah Movement Central Committee secretariat denied the reports in several media outlets, according to which there is truth to the claims against [Fatah] Central Committee member and Secretary Jibril Rajoub.
The secretariat said that our people does not believe these fabrications, whose goal is to harm authentic patriotic figures of stature, and which strive to bring sanctions against the entire Palestinian people. It also warned against spreading these news items, whose source is known, and which Zionist parties are trying to publish.
The secretariat… emphasized its right to sue whoever is tempted to fabricate claims against Rajoub on charges of slander and defamation. It also emphasized that the goals of these lies are known and clear, and that they will not harm the willpower of the Palestinian people in its legitimate struggle.”
While the article did not specify which “claims” and “lies” against Jibril Rajoub the Fatah Central Committee secretariat was responding to, they likely were referring to a $250 million lawsuit against him over his alleged role in the torture and murder of Palestinian-American Azzam Rahim by the PA Security Forces in 1995. Rajoub was served this lawsuit by Shurat HaDin upon his arrival in New York on April 5, 2017.
Around the same time, Palestinian Media Watch filed a complaint against Rajoub with FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee, detailing Rajoub's support of terror in his capacity as Chairman of the Palestinian Football Associaition.
Jibril Rajoub also holds the following positions: Head of the Supreme Council for Sport and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Palestinian Football Association, Chairman of the Palestine Olympic Committee, and Chairman of the Palestinian Scout Association (PSA).
