Official PA daily: Planner of suicide bombing that killed 6 praised for “successful operation”; even “top PA officials praised” it
Headline: "When hunger goes from ransom to rebel"
"In 2002, during the occupation's invasions of the West Bank (i.e., Operation Defensive Shield), there was something preoccupying young Hamza Omar Shamarkha (i.e., terrorist, involved in murder of 6) from the village of Beit Fajjar, south of Bethlehem, more than anything else; together with additional people, led by Martyr (Shahid) Marwan Zalum, (i.e., former head of Fatah terror faction in Hebron) he was planning a self-sacrifice operation (i.e., suicide bombing attack) that was carried out by Martyr Andalib Takatka in Jerusalem, at a time when difficult conditions prevailed in the Palestinian territories. [PA] President Yasser Arafat was under siege, and most of the cities in the West Bank were under siege and suffered from daily attacks and killing.
The operation in the heart of west Jerusalem - on which the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades (i.e., Fatah’s military wing) signed – succeeded. It reverberated due to the one that carried it out, so much so that top officials in the PA praised the operation.
The occupation authorities arrested Hamza on April 13, 2002, and the occupation court sentenced him to 6 life sentences and another 20 years…
He did not let his years in prison pass in vain, [but spent] them obtaining a master’s degree in economics and political science.
Journalist Muhammad Takatka lived with Hamza in the Rimon Prison for about five years, and praised his qualities: ‘Hamza was a polite man, of good character, and educated. We studied together for the matriculation exams. He completed his bachelor’s degree studies in prison and obtained his bachelor’s degree from the Hebrew (i.e., Israeli) Open University in Tel Aviv. He continued his studies until he obtained a master’s degree’…
His brother Muhammad, who was 11 when Hamza was arrested, sent him a message: 'When hunger goes from ransom (referring to an Arabic saying that when a person is very hungry he is liable to do terrible things –Ed.) to rebel, know that victory is drawing near. My brother in the darkness, I do not remember your prison cell number by heart. I do not know in exactly which corner you are lying at this moment, but I know that the walls of your gloomy cell submit to your strength when you lean on them. I also know that you rise to fight death when you feel it near, and that the flock of hypocrites around you is wandering and wailing, while you, like a lion, are steady in your place and stand like a king. My brother, I know that you are still standing, and I also know that our sunbeams will be spun only from your shadow. May Allah, make it easier for you, hero.’"
