Official PA daily pities convicted Palestinian responsible for murder of 22: a ‘victim’ of Israeli prison
Headline: "Al-Balbisi: 23 life sentences, and his children only know him from pictures"
"Abd Al-Halim Sakeb Omar Al-Balbisi (i.e., terrorist, responsible for murder of 22) was a quiet and peaceful boy, and no one expected that behind this quiet stands a man sentenced to 23 life sentences in the occupation's prisons…
On Dec. 6, 1995, while renewing his trade license, the occupation forces arrested him at the Beit Hanoun crossing and transferred him to the military interrogation office on charges of aiding the Bet Lid operation that was carried out by Salah Shaker and Anwar Sukkar on Jan. 22, 1995 (i.e., suicide bombing, 22 murdered), and he was sentenced to 23 life sentences…
Abd Al-Halim's father and mother passed away while he was still in prison, and he was transferred between several prisons, the first of which was the Al-Majdal Prison. Afterwards, he was transferred to the Be’er Sheva Prison, where he was subjected to isolation for four months, and he also went through difficult and violent rounds of interrogation.
Imad, Abd Al-Halim's son, said that the most difficult moment [for him] was when he separated from the people he was close to in prison and was not released together with them in the Shalit [prisoner exchange] deal [in 2011].
His wife suffered from much abuse by the occupation during her visit to him. His mother passed away on July 2, 2007, and the last time she visited him was in 2005."
