PLO official: Paying salaries to terrorist “martyrs’” families is “a political, national, ethical, and social obligation”
Headline: “Majdalani: We will not accede to the American demand to stop the salaries (rawatib) of the prisoners and the Martyrs’ families”
“PLO Executive Committee member [and Secretary-General of the Palestinian Popular Struggle Front (PPSF)] Ahmed Majdalani responded to American Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s statements, in which he said that the American administration asked the PA to stop paying compensation (Ta'widat) to the Martyrs’ (Shahids’) families, and said that it is not possible to accede to this request.
Majdalani added in a press statement today, Wednesday [June 14, 2017], that it is not possible to accede to this request as it constitutes a political, national, ethical, and social obligation to the Martyrs’ families. He emphasized that this subject will not be subject to bargaining, pressures, or extortion from Israel.
He also noted that this request is not debatable as a starting point for any future peace process.
The PLO Executive Committee member noted that the American administration has not presented any initiative for renewing the negotiations between the Palestinian side and the Israeli side.”
