PA government: UNESCO resolution on Jerusalem proves that “the Israeli narrative is false and fabricated, and favored the Palestinian Arab narrative”
Headline: "The [PA] government welcomes that UNESCO has adopted a new resolution confirming that the occupation's claims regarding Jerusalem are false"
"The [PA] national unity government welcomed [the fact that] UNESCO (UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) has adopted by an overwhelming majority a new resolution that confirms that the Israeli occupation’s claims regarding occupied Arab Jerusalem are false, rejects the claims of Israeli sovereignty, determines that everything that Israel has done in the city is void and illegal, and vehemently condemns all of the steps that the occupation authorities are carrying out.
Official [PA] Government Spokesperson Yusuf Al-Mahmoud said in a statement today, Wednesday [July 5, 2017], that this new international resolution stands at the head of a series of previous resolutions that all emphasized that the Israeli narrative is false and fabricated, and favored the Palestinian Arab narrative and the natural and true state of [Jerusalem,] the capital of the State of Palestine and the spiritual capital of the Arab and Islamic nations, which has successfully stood throughout its long history against all of the occupiers and invaders.
The official spokesperson noted that all of the occupation's attempts to erase the characteristics of Jerusalem have failed, despite its strong attempts to take control of Jerusalem for the last half century, and also despite all of the unprecedented steps that it has taken and is taking against the [Arab] Jerusalem residents and against the city and its ancient Arab history."
UNESCO (UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) passed a Jordanian sponsored resolution in Krakow, Poland, on July 4, 2017, denouncing Israel's activity in the Old City of Jerusalem, particularly excavations, and stating that it is "the occupying power" in East Jerusalem, including the Old City of Jerusalem.
Ten countries voted in favor - Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Tunisia, Turkey, Vietnam, Cuba, and Zimbabwe; 3 against - Jamaica, the Philippines and Burkina Faso; and 8 abstained - Angola, Croatia, Finland, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Tanzania, and South Korea.
This resolution is one of many UNESCO resolutions that are frequently passed condemning Israel, particularly regarding Jerusalem.
