PLO official: US Ambassador to the UN is waging an “intimidation” campaign against the Palestinians
Headline: "Ashrawi: Washington’s ambassador to the UN is waging an 'intimidation' campaign against the Palestinian people"
"PLO Executive Committee member Hanan Ashrawi yesterday [July 5, 2017] criticized US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley and accused her of waging an 'intimidation' campaign against the Palestinian people…
She said that Haley repeats Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statements, and noted: 'As part of the campaign that is based on intimidation and threatening, Haley does not miss an opportunity to pressure anyone that tries to challenge the policy of exempting Israel from punishment.'
Ashrawi said that Haley 'worsens the Palestinian people’s tragedies and threatens the institutions that are meant to protect its rights.'…
Since Haley's appointment after [US President] Donald Trump's victory, the American ambassador has again and again accused the UN of a biased and systematic attitude against Israel.
In February 2017, Haley thwarted the appointment of former [PA] Prime Minister Salam Fayyad [by Guterres] as UN envoy to Libya. She also called on Secretary-General of the UN António Guterres to intervene in order to thwart the vote [on a resolution] about the status of Hebron in the occupied West Bank that determines that the city is endangered (On June 30, 2017, Haley sent a letter to Guterres and UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova asking them to oppose UNESCO's declaring Hebron and the Tomb of the Patriarchs Palestinian heritage sites –Ed.)
Ashrawi added that the American ambassador to the UN is sabotaging the prospects for peace by 'implementing her own agenda that is consistent with her obsession against Palestinians and with the fact that she makes up excuses for Israel.'"
