Hamas and Fatah close down opposing newspapers

“De facto [Hamas] government forces shut down the offices of the As-Subeh newspaper and detained its editor Sari Al-Qudweh. The Palestinian journalists' union condemned the detention... Journalists should not be the target of political conflicts, the union's statement said, and reminded the governments in the West Bank [Fatah] and Gaza [Hamas] that Al-Qudweh is not the only journalist who has been targeted in recent months… The union also called on caretaker [Fatah] government officials in Ramallah to make sure the local newspapers [of Hamas] "Palestine" and "A-Risala" were also permitted to start circulating their publications in the West Bank.”
