PA officials: Jews have “no connection” to Temple Mount, continued Israeli “crimes in Jerusalem” will lead to “more violence and spilling of blood in the entire region”
Headline: "Sources of authority in Jerusalem call to boycott the metal detectors, and Ida'is calls to go up to the Al-Aqsa Mosque"
"The Islamic sources of authority in Jerusalem… called on residents of Jerusalem and Palestine to resist all of the Israeli occupation's cruel steps, which are being expressed by a change in the historical status quo, and include placing metal detectors at the Al-Aqsa Mosque gates. They called not to use [the metal detectors] under any circumstances and not to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque through them.
In a joint statement, Islamic sources of authority yesterday [July 17, 2017] called on citizens to go up to the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque to pray and serve Allah. They said: 'If they continue to require entry to the Al-Aqsa Mosque by passing through metal detectors, we call on the members of our people to pray and devote themselves to serving Allah before the gates of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, in the streets of Jerusalem, and its alleys.'
[PA] Minister of Religious Affairs Sheikh Yusuf Ida’is called on citizens to go up to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, to pray at the places they can reach, and to support the members of our people in Jerusalem, who are living these days under the swords of the right-wing [Israeli] government…
Ida'is also issued instructions to focus on the occupation government’s unprecedented attacks and violations against the Al-Aqsa Mosque during the next Friday sermon…
Supreme Shari’ah Judge, [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas’] advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs[, and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Shari'ah Justice] Mahmoud Al-Habbash emphasized that the Israeli steps within the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Old City of Jerusalem are invalid and constitute a flagrant violation of international conventions and decisions of the international community…
Al-Habbash warned that if Israel continues its crimes in Jerusalem and its siege of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, this will not bring it peace and security, but rather will lead to more violence and spilling of blood in the entire region…
Fatah Movement Central Committee member [Fatah Commissioner of Mobilization and Organization in the West Bank, and PLO Central Council member] Jamal Muhaisen emphasized the Muslims’ ownership of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and warned against the Israeli plan to exploit the events (i.e., terror attack at the Temple Mount on July 14, 2017, 2 murdered; see note below) in order to Judaize it. He said: 'The Jews have no connection to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the occupation government has no authority over it.’
…
Muhaisen said in a radio interview: 'It is impossible to accept the existing situation. The situation must return to how it was before 7:00 a.m. on the 14th of this month [July 2017] (i.e., before the terror attack). The Israeli occupation authorities must remove the metal detectors and security checkpoints at the entrances to the Al-Aqsa Mosque.’"
