“The [PA] Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned all of the steps and measures that the occupation authorities are taking against the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque… whose goal is to put the status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque up for negotiation and to create a new reality, through which different issues of Israeli sovereignty will be forced on the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque (refers to Israel placing metal detectors at the entrances to the Temple Mount following a terror attack there on July 14, 2017, in which 2 Israelis were murdered; see note below –Ed.)…

Therefore, the ministry calls on the leaders and peoples to take this battle seriously…
Supreme Shari’ah Judge and [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas’] advisor on Religious and Islamic Affairs Mahmoud Al-Habbash demanded that the UN and [UN] Security Council intervene urgently in order to stop the Israeli escalation, before the situation deteriorates further and reaches the point of no return. In a press statement, Al-Habbash added that the metal detectors that the occupation authorities placed are the reason for the current Palestinian popular rage, and that there is no alternative to their removal.
