Official PA TV, live broadcast of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ speech given before visiting Palestinian leaders from Jerusalem at the PA’s headquarters
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “Blessings to the soul of brother fighter Faisal Al-Husseini ( i.e., senior Fatah and PLO terror leader in the 1970s), blessings to the great Martyr (Shahid), Al-Qastal Martyr (i.e., a village that served as a military base for Arab armies in Israel’s 1948 War of Independence and was captured by Israel) Abd Al-Qader Al-Husseini (i.e., Arab commander in the 1948 war). A loyal blessing to the soul of Grand Mufti of Palestine and G uardian of its Arabness [Haj] Muhammad Amin Al-Husseini (i.e., a collaborator of Adolf Hitler). This man whose virtues we cannot forget, and whose struggle and history we cannot forget. He who spent his life defending Palestine and was called ‘the Grand Mufti of Palestine and Guardian of its Arabness’ – we won’t forget these people.”
Haj Amin Al-Husseini - Grand Mufti of Jerusalem at the time of the British mandate, and spiritual and a political leader of the local Arab population. He strongly opposed Zionism and was behind riots and attacks on Jews. During World War II he actively collaborated with Nazi Germany, meeting Adolf Hitler personally and recruiting Muslims for the Nazi army.
