PA Council official: Israel’s goal is ”Judaization… destroying the Al-Aqsa Mosque and building the alleged Temple on its ruins”
Headline: “The [PA] Islamic-Christian Council: The Al-Aqsa Mosque fire will not be extinguished except by returning the mosque to the Islamic nation”
“The [PA] Islamic-Christian Council for Jerusalem and the Holy Places today, Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2017 – which is the 48th anniversary of the arson of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque – said that the crimes, daily invasions, and Judaization actions that the occupation authorities are carrying out by establishing outposts, excavating tunnels, and preventing worshippers [from entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque] are a continuation of the great crime of the arson of the blessed mosque…
Secretary-General of the [PA Islamic-Christian] Council [for Jerusalem and the Holy Places and Fatah Revolutionary Council member] Dr. Hanna Issa said: ‘The arson of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque was the start of a comprehensive and dangerous plan to Judaize the mosque and completely take control of it. This plot was clearly and publicly revealed with the call to open the mosque’s gates to Jews, its division according to areas and times, and the attempt to place metal detectors by force at its entrance (refers to security measures following a lethal terror attack; see note below –Ed.).’ He also said that the crime of the arson of the blessed mosque is not the only crime against the mosque or the only attack against the sanctity of the holy sites and houses of worship in Jerusalem, but rather it was part of a large Judaization plan directed against the entire city of Jerusalem, without any consideration for the sites in it that are holy to Islam and Christianity.’
He added: ‘The crime against the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the rest of the sites that are holy to Islam and Christianity in occupied Jerusalem is being continued by changing their names and details. This is as the occupation authorities and extremists still work with all of their energy to implement the goal that they have striven for – destroying the Al-Aqsa Mosque and building the alleged Temple on its ruins.’”
Michael Rohan - deranged Australian Christian who set fire to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in 1969. For years, the Palestinian Authority has falsely accused Israel of setting the fire.
The PA and its leaders consider all of the Temple Mount an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Therefore they view any presence of Jews on the mount as an “invasion.” It should be noted that Jews who visit the Temple Mount only enter some sections of the open areas, and do not enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque or the Dome of the Rock.
"Division according to areas and times" refers to a proposed law (May 2013) being reviewed in Israeli Parliament that would allow for both Jews and Muslims to pray on the Temple Mount, what the Palestinians call the Al-Aqsa Mosque plaza. The law seeks to designate separate prayer times and areas of the site for Muslims and Jews.
However, Israeli PM Netanyahu has stated on many occasions that the Israeli government has no intention of changing the status quo on the Temple Mount, which means Jews are allowed to enter the Temple Mount, but cannot pray there or engage in any type of worship.
The mention of metal detectors refers to Israeli security measures at the Temple Mount, including metal detectors at the entrances, following an attack there on July 14, 2017, in which 2 Israeli border police officers were murdered by 3 Israeli Arab terrorists. On July 24, 2017, Israel decided to remove the metal detectors and security cameras it had placed at the site. The PA continued to demand that all measures including inspections at the entrances be removed, and Palestinians continued to riot. On July 27, 2017, PA religious leaders declared that all Israeli measures had been removed.
