Headline: "Saidam: Our textbooks are available for free to the members of our people in the '48 territories"
"[PA] Minister of Education and Higher Education [and Fatah Central Committee Deputy Secretary] Sabri Saidam consented to the request of Father Constantine Nasser, the priest of the Greek Orthodox community in Jaffa, to provide the State of Palestine's edition of [the textbook] Christian Education to the Greek Orthodox school in the city. Saidam announced that the Ministry [of Education] will give these books to the school for free, and that it will give Islamic Education textbooks and every other book to the schools in the '48 territories (i.e., Israel) in order to support these schools and their students, and in order to emphasize the good and strong relations between members of the same people. He emphasized that the ministry is committed to supporting the education sector throughout the homeland… Father Constantine praised the new Palestinian [PA] curriculum, because it benefits the school students by strengthening the ties between the members of the same people. On another matter, Saidam confirmed that the money for education development is being received regularly, according to the plans and capabilities of the funding bodies…
He explained that the ministry has finished preparing its plan and 2018 budget, after the necessary tests were carried out, including the flow of funds and their expenditure on the planned activities. He emphasized that the financial support that the ministry receives from the donor states constitutes an important component among the components for the implementation of the comprehensive development plan in education.
It should be noted that the size of the education sector's budget is nearing a quarter of the [PA] general budget. The goal of the unceasing annual financial commitments from the international partners is to implement the development plan, especially in the areas of school construction, technological development, and training, while the local money covers the current expenses."
Sabri Saidam also holds the following positions: Fatah Revolutionary Council Deputy Secretary, and PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ advisor for Communications and Information Technology.
