Fatah official: “Resistance in the eyes of the Fatah and Hamas Movements is a means to ending the occupation and establishing a Palestinian state”
Headline: "Rajoub: The time has come to build a true national partnership – [the unity government] will include the concept of the political solution, the resistance, and the state plan, and the rule of one law and one weapon"
"Fatah Central Committee Secretary champion Jibril Rajoub said that 'The hour is ripe for building a political partnership that will include the concepts of a political solution, the general agreement about the resistance, a state plan, [and] the rule of one weapon (i.e., one military body) and one law.'
In an interview with [Lebanese TV] channel Al-Mayadeen he said: 'Resistance in the eyes of the Fatah and Hamas Movements is a means to ending the occupation and establishing a Palestinian state.' He emphasized that Fatah did not and will not relinquish the resistance and that today there are international plots against Palestine.
Rajoub continued: 'Everyone agrees that the Palestinian state will be under one weapon, one police, and one regime. We need national unity that will focus on agreement and partnership.' He said: 'We want to create pressure on the occupation in order to achieve our rights.' He said that Israeli Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu is losing a historical opportunity to build peace with the entire Arab world.
He added: We want to hold a dialogue, but there is no choice for Hamas and Fatah other than to build a partnership between them.' Rajoub emphasized that there is agreement in the region about returning the Gaza Strip to the PA…
Rajoub emphasized the importance of national unity that is expressed by the resolve of the people of Jerusalem before the occupation, and their success in achieving their goals and lifting the siege on the Al-Aqsa Mosque (This refers to the removal of the metal detectors placed at the entrances to the Temple Mount following a deadly terror attack there in which 2 Israelis were murdered; see note below –Ed.)."
Jibril Rajoub also holds the following positions: Head of the PLO Supreme Council for Sport and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Palestinian Football Association (this is an independent NGO), Chairman of the Palestine Olympic Committee, and Chairman of the Palestinian Scout Association (PSA).
The mention of "lifting the siege on the Al-Aqsa Mosque" refers to Israeli security measures at the Temple Mount, including metal detectors at the entrances, following an attack there on July 14, 2017, in which 2 Israeli border police officers were murdered by 3 Israeli Arab terrorists. On July 24, 2017, Israel decided to remove the metal detectors and security cameras it had placed at the site. The PA continued to demand that all measures including inspections at the entrances be removed, and Palestinians continued to riot. On July 27, 2017, PA religious leaders declared that all Israeli measures had been removed.
