PLO official: Imprisoned Palestinian terrorists are “freedom prisoners,” not terrorists or criminals
Headline: “Karake: The occupation is striving to delegitimize the prisoners’ legal rights”
“Director of [PLO] Commission of Prisoners and Released Prisoners’ Affairs [Issa Karake] said that the arbitrary and severe Israeli steps against the prisoners – who are covered by a series of Israeli legislation and laws that violate the prisoners’ rights – are official and systematic Israeli attempts to delegitimize the prisoners’ status, their legal and humanitarian definition, and their legal struggle against the occupation for freedom and independence.
Karake called to act to strengthen the prisoners’ legal status according to the Geneva Convention, international law, international humanitarian law, and the UN resolutions, as they are freedom prisoners and legal fighters against the occupation. This is so as to act against the crazy Israeli efforts to define the prisoners' entire struggle as terror and crime, and to incite for this on the political and diplomatic level.”
