PLO official: Balfour Declaration was “historical mistake” that Britain should correct, Israel commits terror against Palestinians

“[Palestinian] National Council (i.e., the legislative body of the PLO) delegation head [and Fatah Central Committee member] Azzam Al-Ahmad called on the legislative bodies and democratic forces that want peace in the world to bear their responsibility to protect the security, peace, democracy, and right of the peoples to self-determination; to implement the conventions and resolutions that the international community has ratified through its institutions; and to complete the states’ recognition of the State of Palestine, in accordance with the UN resolutions…
In his speech before the Inter-Parliamentary Union general assembly yesterday [Oct. 17, 2017], Al-Ahmad said that ‘The Palestinian people, which is standing firm in the occupied homeland and outside of it, expects you to stand alongside it in its ongoing struggle – since the Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration) from British Foreign Secretary [Arthur Balfour] 100 years ago – for its freedom and the achievement of its national rights like the rest of the peoples of the world. We hope that Britain will correct its historical mistake against our people’…
The Palestinian National Council delegation head added: ‘In Palestine we do not attribute democracy to ourselves [as Israel does], we do not oppress and exploit the other, and [we do not] sponsor terror organizations that carry out oppression, killing, settlement, and destruction of the homes and farms of the residents, as the occupation authorities are doing against our people.’ [Al-Ahmad] concluded his speech by saying: ‘Enough of the occupation, oppression, exploitation, and apartheid policy – yes to the establishment of the independent Palestinian state whose capital is East Jerusalem. We will continue to fight terror in all of its forms, including state terror, for the sake of building, prosperity, and peace.’”

Azzam Al-Ahmad also holds the following positions: Fatah Commissioner of National Relations (i.e., between Hamas and Fatah) and Fatah Commissioner for Relations with Lebanon.
The Balfour Declaration of Nov. 2, 1917 was a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Baron Rothschild stating that “His Majesty's government views with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.” In 1922, the League of Nations adopted this and made the British Mandate “responsible for putting into effect the declaration,” which led to the UN vote in 1947 and the establishment of the State of Israel.
