PA Supreme Fatwa Council rejects US recognition of Jerusalem: “Jerusalem is an inseparable part of the occupied Palestinian land, and there is no legality to the existence of the occupation on any bit of it”
Headline: “The Supreme Fatwa Council: Jerusalem belongs to us by virtue of an irrefutable divine decree”
“The [PA Palestinian] Supreme Fatwa Council adamantly rejected American President [Donald Trump’s] decision to give occupied Jerusalem as a capital to the Israeli occupation entity state. It explained that this decision - which was given by one without ownership to one without a right – is illegal and constitutes a grave threat to the peace and stability in the region and a blatant attack against the rights of the Palestinian people and of the Arab and Islamic nation that are behind it. This is because Jerusalem is an inseparable part of the occupied Palestinian land, and there is no legality to the existence of the occupation on any bit of it, and it and its holy sites - and the diamond in its crown, the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque - will remain in the souls of the Muslims and Arabs and will not be relinquished or bargained over. Our people, its leadership, and its factions refuse to hand over the keys to the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque or the Church of the Holy Sepulchre to any foreign party, regardless of the cost and the sacrifices.”
US recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel - On Dec. 6, 2017, US President Donald Trump gave a speech formally recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and stating that he had instructed the State Department to begin preparations to transfer the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Trump concluded by stating that the US is still fully committed to the peace process in the Middle East. Following his speech, Trump signed the waiver to delay the transfer of the embassy, and apparently will continue to do so until preparations for the transfer have been completed.
