Official [PA] Presidential Office Spokesman [and Fatah Central Committee member] Nabil Abu Rudeina said that the American veto yesterday [Dec. 18, 2017] at the Security Council of a proposed resolution regarding [US President Donald] Trump’s declaring Jerusalem the capital of Israel opposes the international consensus and is in opposition to the decisions of the international institutions…
Abu Rudeina emphasized that this veto will worsen the isolation of the US and constitute a provocation of the international community.
He said: ‘We will continue our moves in the UN and all of the international institutions in order to defend all of our people’s rights.’
Abu Rudeina added: ‘This American step is negative, and it contains defiance towards the international community. It will contribute to an increase of the anarchy and extremism instead of security.’”
US recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel - On Dec. 6, 2017, US President Donald Trump formally recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and instructed the State Department to begin preparations to transfer the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Trump added that the final borders of Jerusalem will be determined during negotiations.
