Op-ed in official PA daily says one would think Nikki Haley ordered the assassination of Rabin, that she is an “extremist” and a “racist”
Excerpt of op-ed by Bassem Barhoum, regular columnist for the official PA daily
Headline: "Haley retroactively assassinates Rabin"
"Whoever listened to [US President Donald] Trump's representative in the UN, [US Ambassador to the UN] Nikki Haley, in the two meetings of the [UN] Security Council regarding Jerusalem will think that she is the one that ordered the assassination of [former Israeli Prime Minister] Yitzhak Rabin. If Rabin and [former Israeli President] Shimon Peres were alive, they would advise Haley to rationally examine Israel's interests, and not out of Zionist extremism…
Haley is not [only] biased in favor of Israel, because all of the US representatives were biased. She does not [only] adopt the Zionist ideology and enterprise; she is by her existence Zionist, extremist, and racist. Many Israelis think that Haley hates the Palestinians even more than they themselves do…
Haley is not only Zionist and an extremist Zionist; she is a racist that hates the Palestinian people, which she blames as the one that rejects the peace proposals, and not [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu's government, the government of settlements and expansion. This extremist Zionist views the role that the US played in the past in the peace process – [a role] that is known for being biased in favor of Israel – as a betrayal of the American conscience. [She thinks that] the fact that the American presidents in the past did not transfer their embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem also constitutes a betrayal of the conscience. What conscience is Haley talking about? Undoubtedly she views Rabin's signing of the Oslo [Accords in 1993] as a betrayal of Zionism, and therefore the assassination of the traitor was necessary."
On Dec. 19, 2017, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley posted on her Facebook page this statement regarding a UN General Assembly vote on Dec. 21, 2017, on a resolution condemning US President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and decision to transfer the US embassy to Jerusalem, which he announced on Dec. 6, 2017: "At the UN we're constantly asked to do more and give more - in the past we have. So, when we make a decision, at the will of the American people, about where to locate OUR embassy, we don't expect those we've helped to target us. On Thursday there will be a vote at the UN criticizing our choice. And yes, the US will be taking names. #TakingNames."
Haley also sent a message to other UN member states: "As you consider your vote, I want you to know that the President and U.S. take this vote personally. The President will be watching this vote carefully and has requested I report back on those countries who voted against us."
The next day, Trump backed her statements and indicated there would be financial consequences for those countries in terms of US aid, saying: "Let them vote against us, we'll save a lot."
