Op-ed in PA daily: “The historical and religious facts and testimony,” and “international conventions and laws” prove that “Jerusalem… has no symbolism whatsoever from the Jews’ perspective”
Excerpt of an op-ed by Omar Hilmi Al-Ghoul, regular columnist for the official PA daily
Headline: “Ziedan has crossed the line”
“For a considerable period – more than a year – Egyptian author Youssef Ziedan has been distorting and changing the facts of history regarding Palestine and its holy sites, and particularly the Al-Aqsa Mosque… He is falsely and deceitfully claiming that Jerusalem is a ‘holy’ site for the Jews, and that it is a ‘symbol’ for them (sic., in a local Egyptian ONTV interview on Dec. 24, 2017, Ziedan said Jerusalem is not a holy city and added "neither we [Muslims] nor the [Jews] have anything to do with [the Al-Aqsa Mosque]")…
This is despite all of the historical and religious facts and testimony, in addition to the international conventions and laws, and the resolutions of the UN in general and UNESCO (UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) in particular, proving day after day that Jerusalem is Palestinian-Arab and Islamic-Christian, and that it has no symbolism whatsoever from the Jews’ perspective (sic., Jerusalem has been the Jewish capital for 3,000 years), including the Al-Buraq Wall (i.e., the Western Wall of the Temple Mount), which they claim is the Western Wall…
Ziedan has crossed all of the lines of reason and scientific research… but he has forgotten – or pretended to forget – that the value of a real author and a real scientist is measured according to his belonging to his homeland, his people, and his nation; according to his credibility and defense of the truth, original identity, and justice; and according to his support for the oppressed peoples, groups, and people. These are the elements that Youssef Ziedan has completely lost. He has sunk into the swamp of falsification and fabrication for the sake of the enemies of the Arab nation in general, and the Palestinian people in particular.”
The Al-Buraq Wall - Islam's Prophet Muhammad is said to have rode during his Night Journey from Mecca to "al aqsa mosque", i.e., "the farthest mosque" (Quran, Sura 17), and there tied his miraculous flying steed named Al-Buraq to a "stone" or a "rock." (Jami` at-Tirmidhi, Book 47, Hadith 3424). In the 1920's, Arab Mufti Haj Amin Al-Husseini decided to identify the Western Wall of the Temple in Jerusalem as that "rock" or "stone," and since then Muslims refer to the Western Wall as the "Al-Buraq Wall."
