Fatah Central Committee Member Jibril Rajoub: “If the occupation continues, the world can still say that Israel no longer has legitimacy”
Headline: "Rajoub: Israel will not live in security as long as the occupation continues"
"Fatah Central Committee member General Jibril Rajoub said: 'Israel will not live in security as long as the occupation continues; the option of armed struggle is our choice, and we will not wave a white flag.'
He added in an interview with the [Israeli] newspaper Haaretz: 'If the Israelis think that we will accept the occupation they are mistaken. I turn to the Israelis: You will not live in security as long as there is occupation and the settlement continues. This cannot coexist with peace. If you want stability and good neighborly relations, you must stop the settlement and end the occupation, which is the greatest terror in the world.'
However, he added: 'I believe in peace despite the fact that the right-wing was elected to the government in Israel. I know that the great majority of the Israeli public prefers to live in coexistence and to recognize the Palestinian rights, but they have gangs of crazy people that are taking control of the decision, and dictating the facts as they please to the public.'
…
Rajoub added that he 'supports a solution based on two states for two peoples, and that this needs to be realized through negotiations or through non-violent struggle, but we need an Israeli partner that recognizes the Palestinian existence. Peace is not solely a Palestinian interest, but is an Israeli interest; Israel is not doing us a favor. The existence of Israel was based on a UN General Assembly resolution, but do not forget that this resolution gave legitimacy to an additional state.'
And he continued: 'If the occupation continues, the world can still say that Israel no longer has legitimacy.’"
