Fatah official on the PA’s payment of salaries to terrorists and families of “martyrs”: “The Martyrs are more precious than all of us together… the prisoners are our compasses”

Headline: “Dr. Muhaisen: Our national unity is the rock on which all of the plots against our cause will be shattered”

“The Al-Quds magazine [of Fatah’s Information and Culture Commission in Lebanon] spoke with Fatah Movement Central Committee member, [Fatah] Commissioner of Mobilization and Organization in the Southern Districts (i.e., the Gaza Strip, sic., he holds this position in the West Bank), [and PLO Central Council member] Jamal Muhaisen…
[Question:] ‘“Israel” is continuing its war against the prisoners and Martyrs (Shahids), and this time has announced its intention to deduct their salaries (rawatib) from the [PA] tax money (refers to a new Israeli bill; see note below –Ed.). What is your opinion on this matter?’
[Jamal Muhaisen:] ‘The Martyrs are more precious than all of us together, as they died defending the Arabness of the Palestinian land, and the prisoners are our compasses who sacrificed their freedom for the freedom of the Palestinian people and the Palestinian land. Both of them have sacrificed for our right and historical identity, and this is their right and our obligation. When we talk about how there were approximately a million Palestinian prisoners in the Zionist prisons, what this means is that the entire Palestinian people is forbidden from receiving any kind of salary. These Martyrs also died due to the crimes committed by the occupation soldiers without any reason or restrictions …
Our Martyrs and prisoners are Palestinian national symbols, and we will continue to pay their salaries to their families, even if we will need to deduct from everyone’s salaries, and it does not matter what this will cost us.’"

Bill to deduct terror salaries from PA tax money - A bill proposed by the Israeli Ministry of Defense that would deduct the amount of money the PA pays imprisoned terrorists and families of "Martyrs" from the tax money Israel collects for the PA, which was passed by the Israeli Parliament in a first reading on May 7, 2018. The bill would enable the deducted money to be used for infrastructure benefiting all West Bank residents, compensation awarded to terror victims in lawsuits against the PA or individual terrorists, and projects aimed at eliminating terror.
