Fatah Central Committee Member: Israel “entirely subsists on oppression and official terror,” refers to terrorist prisoners as an “important, and noble sector”
Official PA TV program Topic of the Day, on the anniversary of a Palestinian prisoner hunger strike in Nafha Prison that took place in the 1980s, interview with Fatah Central Committee Secretary Jibril Rajoub
Fatah Central Committee Secretary Jibril Rajoub: “These days, this enemy wants to turn the prisoners and Martyrs (Shahids) into terrorists and the care for them into a crime (referring to the law to deduct terrorist salaries from PA tax money; see note below -Ed.). Fundamentally, as you know, this entity [Israel] – which entirely subsists on oppression and official terror – is the criminal, but it has marketed itself as if it is the victim and not the hangman. [PA President Mahmoud Abbas’ meeting with the families of prisoners that were in the Nafha Prison hunger strike] is also a message that no, these [prisoners] are the most noble and exalted. Their place in history and the consciousness cannot be other than firm, as was drafted on Jan. 1, 1965 (refers to Fatah’s first terror attack, the attempted bombing of Israel’s National Water Carrier; see note below –Ed.)…
This hangman that presents [itself] as if it is the victim and we are the terrorists - no, my brother, it is the hangman. It is the criminal and we are the victim. What happened a few days ago [when Abbas met prisoners’ families] is a modest message. That is to say, the decorating and honoring of a group of seven people; but it is an important message to a large, important, and noble sector (i.e., the prisoners).”
Jibril Rajoub also holds the following positions: Head of the PLO Supreme Council for Sport and Youth, Chairman of the Palestinian Football, Chairman of the Palestine Olympic Committee, and Chairman of the Palestinian Scout Association (PSA).
Law to deduct terrorist salaries from PA tax money - Israeli law stating that the PA payments to terrorists and the families of dead terrorists is a financial incentive to terror. The law instructs the state to deduct and freeze the amount of money the PA pays in salaries to imprisoned terrorists and families of "Martyrs" from the tax money Israel collects for the PA. Should the PA stop these payments for a full year, the Israeli government would have the option of giving all or part of the frozen money to the PA. The law was enacted on July 2, 2018.
During the parliamentary vote, the law's sponsor Avi Dichter said: “The Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee received much help in its deliberations... from Palestinian Media Watch who provided us with authentic data that enabled productive and professional deliberations, nuances that are very difficult to achieve without precise data.” [Israeli Parliament website, July 2, 2018]
Bombing of Israel's National Water Carrier - On Jan. 1, 1965, Palestinian terrorists attempted to bomb Israel's National Water Carrier. This was the first attack against Israel carried out by Fatah. Fatah refers to the attack as the “Intilaqa”, meaning “the Launch” of Fatah.
