US embassy is “American settlement” says Palestinian journalist union
Headline: “The [Palestinian] Journalists’ Syndicate calls to boycott the meeting to which ‘the American settlement’ in Jerusalem issued invitations”
“The [Palestinian] Journalists’ Syndicate demanded to boycott the meeting to which ‘the American Settlement’ in Jerusalem (i.e., the US embassy) invited a few Palestinian journalists.
In a statement that it published yesterday evening [Sept. 30, 2018], the syndicate condemned the fact that ‘the American settlement’ dared to invite a few Palestinian journalists to the meeting. It viewed this as unprecedented insolence, ‘as the American administration (the administration [of US President Donald] Trump) [parentheses in source] is acting to eliminate all aspects of the Palestinian cause – political, national, and historical – and despite this, is attempting to insult the intelligence by inviting Palestinian journalists to a meeting at its embassy, which it has transferred to Jerusalem, the eternal capital of the State of Palestine, in blatant violation of the international conventions and laws.’”
US recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel - On Dec. 6, 2017, US President Donald Trump formally recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Trump added that the final borders of Jerusalem will be determined during negotiations.
The US embassy was transferred from Tel Aviv and opened in Jerusalem on May 14, 2018, the anniversary of Israel's declaration of independence in 1948 according to the Gregorian calendar.
