"[PA] Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh has promised to amend the decision to raise his and the other ministers' salaries by $2,000.

The previous government secretly decided to raise its members' salaries, but this fact caused a wave of rage among the Palestinians after it was leaked.

UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov tweeted [June 6, 2019] that 'At a time when the #Palestinian people are struggling with economic hardship, when salaries were cut in #Gaza, such decisions defy logic and rightly anger people.'

He also noted that the Palestinian prime minister promised him to stop this step immediately and to investigate the matter.

The decision to raise the salaries remained secret until it was exposed by an anonymous group of hackers that calls itself 'against the current.'

According to the documents that the website published, Palestinian [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas issued a decision to raise the ministers' salaries from $3,000 to $5,000 and the prime minister’s salary from $4,000 to $6,000."
