US Envoy Jason Greenblatt Slams PA Fatah Threats of Intifada Violence Over Bahrain Workshop

U.S. Special Representative for International Negotiations Jason Greenblatt slammed the Palestinian Authority’s leading Fatah faction on Monday in response to its threats of a new intifada and attacks to “make the ground burn under the feet of tyrants.” The threats came in response to the impending start of the U.S.-led Bahrain economic workshop, set to begin on Tuesday in Manama.

The Fatah faction, headed by Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas, has already called for violence against the Bahrain workshop, as documented by the Palestinian Media Watch.

Now Fatah’s youth movement, Shabiba, has threatened to start a wave of terror attacks in response to Bahrain, writes the PMW’s Nan Jacques Zilberdik.

Referring to how Fatah “ignited the first Intifada and the Al-Aqsa Intifada” – the two major waves of Palestinian violence and terror against Israelis – Shabiba’s secretary-general threatened in the official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida on June 21 that Fatah’s youth movement is “still capable of making the ground burn under the feet of the tyrants,” and that it is in “a state of high alert.”

Hassan Faraj made the threat in response to Greenblatt, who reacted to PMW’s exposure of Fatah’s call for “escalating confrontations” by calling Fatah’s threat “despicable” in a June 20 tweet.

Shabiba also lashed out at Greenblatt and the US, referring to US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, Jason Greenblatt, and US Presidential Advisor Jared Kushner as “the Zionist hate triangle.”

Like Fatah and Shabiba, the National and Islamic Forces in the Ramallah and El-Bireh district have called for “popular demonstrations of rage” and “escalation” to show opposition to the Bahrain workshop.

“The National and Islamic Forces in the Ramallah and El-Bireh district called to carry out a number of activities in response to the workshop in Bahrain… the forces called to consider [Monday] a day of popular demonstrations of rage as a sign of resistance to the plans to eliminate [the Palestinian cause], and the plots to eliminate our people’s rights,” the official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida wrote on June 23, adding information about a morning gathering in Ramallah and dispersal to “areas of friction” and “escalation of the popular resistance” and urging readers to “consider Tuesday, June 25 as a day of escalation on the ground at the points of friction” as well.
