“Deputy Head of the PLO Department of Human Rights and Civil Society Husam Arafat said: ‘American Envoy to the Middle East Jason Greenblatt’s latest statements about bypassing the Palestinian leadership and having direct contact with Palestinian figures are meaningless and an obvious media deception.’

Arafat added: ‘Greenblatt and the American administration will not find a single Palestinian person who will have contact with them outside of the position of the Palestinian consensus, or who will bypass the PLO leadership.’ He emphasized that the position of the Palestinian leadership, led by [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas, is achieving unprecedented unity on the national level, on the faction level, and on the popular level in all that is connected to the deal of the century (i.e., refers to US President Donald Trump’s as yet unpublished Middle East peace plan), and it is what caused the thwarting of the Bahrain conference (i.e., refers to US-led conference in June 2019 focusing on economic aspects of Trump's Middle East peace plan) as a prelude to bringing down the deal of the century.”
