PA to open eye clinic named after Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez
“[PA] Minister of Culture Mai Al-Kaila… spoke in an interview on the official PA TV program Topic of the Day… about the preparations to open the [former Venezuelan President Hugo] Chavez Eye Clinic, and said: ‘It has been built and fully equipped, and it will open within two months.’ She also explained that in the last [PA] government meeting, [PA] Prime Minister [Muhammad Shtayyeh] demanded to prepare a list of special equipment for ophthalmology and the like.”
Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias (1954-2013) was President of Venezuela from 1999 until his death in 2013. He endorsed a socialist, anti-Imperialist political ideology. Chavez was a vocal critic of America and Israel, calling Israel worse than Hitler in its treatment of Palestinians. His anti-Zionism and close relations with Iran led to allegations of Antisemitism by the Simon Wiesenthal Center.
