Palestinian rep to the UN: Israel’s establishment and continuing policies destabilize the region; Israeli “violations” at the Al-Aqsa Mosque could lead to religious war
Headline: “Mansour: The security and peace of the Middle East depend on doing justice with the Palestinian cause”
“Permanent Representative of Palestine in the UN Riyad Mansour said before the [UN] Security Council yesterday [Aug. 21, 2019] that the cause of Palestine is just, and that it is impossible to relate to the situation in the Middle East without speaking about the cause of Palestine…
Mansour added: ‘The efforts to reduce the significance of the destructive effects on the entire region due to the Palestinian people being uprooted from its land over 70 years ago, and the occupying power’s actions being ignored to this very day, are efforts that do not serve the peace or security of the region.’ …
He said: ‘We warn against creating fertile ground for a religious war in Palestine due to Israel’s inciting actions and statements, including the violations that extremists are committing at the Noble Sanctuary (i.e., the Temple Mount) with the support of the army in clear contempt for the sanctity of the site, its historical position, and the status quo at the religious and sensitive sites around the area. All of this contributes to an inflaming of the religious sensibilities, and herein lies the danger of a religious war breaking out.’”
