“On behalf of President of the Syrian Arab Republic Bashar Assad, Syrian Minister of Religious Affairs Muhammad Abd Al-Sattar gave [PA] President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas a Quran written in gold ink as a gift yesterday [July 1, 2019]. PLO Political Department Director-General Ambassador Anwar Abd Al-Hadi.
According to a statement by the department, Ambassador Abd Al-Hadi gave the Syrian minister of religious affairs a letter of thanks from President Mahmoud Abbas for the comprehensive book of commentary on the Quran that he gave His Honor the President as a gift in the past.
During Ambassador Abd Al-Hadi’s meeting with the Syrian minister of religious affairs, which was held on Monday at the Ministry [of Religious Affairs] headquarters in the capital, Damascus, Abd Al-Hadi discussed the Palestinian cause's current critical period. [He also discussed] the plots being woven by the occupation government – with the American administration’s support – to eliminate it, and the pressures being applied to the Palestinian leadership so that it will agree to the so-called deal of the century (i.e., referring to US President Donald Trump’s as yet unpublished Middle East peace plan).
He added: ‘We have completely thwarted the Bahrain workshop (i.e., refers to US-led conference in June 2019 focusing on economic aspects of Trump's Middle East peace plan) thanks to the resolve of our people and the Palestinian leadership, led by President Mahmoud Abbas.’

[He added that] we saw its results on the ground when we saw this normalization (i.e., referring to the Bahrain workshop), which embarrasses every Muslim, Arab, and Christian…
Ambassador Abd Al-Hadi also gave the minister of religious affairs a gift – a clock decorated with the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
